Mike Wallace's Interview with Rod Serling

This is a famous Rod Serling interview, especially to super fans of the show, because it takes place before Twilight Zone had aired. Serling discusses his work in TV up to this point and why he is taking a chance on creating the Twilight Zone. But Serling doesn’t say the things we are used to hearing about the Twilight Zone in the 21st century. His cloak of misdirection is fully hooded as he discusses not wanting to fight with sponsors anymore and that 30 min programs can’t  “use scripts as vehicles of social criticism” and they are “strictly for entertainment”. Although many episodes are mostly entertainment, we know now on this side of the Twilight Zone how Rod used science fiction and fantasy to veil stories he wanted to tell without sponsors or sensors knowing it.

This is a colorized version of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone sale pitch to Sanka coffee and possibly others.  In it he discusses what the show will be and explains 3 episodes in great detail and entertaining fashion; The Lonely, Escape Clause, and Mr. Deton on Doomsday which he calls Death, Destry, and Mr. Dingle.  There is also a sneak peek at footage from Where is Everybody.

Rod Serling 1970 Interview

Here is an interview with Rod Serling from 1970 about 5 years before his death. He talks about Twilight Zone and Night Gallery after the fact and Science Fiction on television. He is confident, relaxed and just being himself. A good watch for any Twilight Zone or Rod Serling enthusiast.
